Tabriz Iron Age Museum
An ancient site of the Mosque of Kabood located on the northeast of Tabriz Mosque. The length (east-west) of this area is 276 meters and the width (north-south) is an average of 102 meters and an area of 28290 square meters (about 3 hectares). This site was formed during excavations in 1376 by the companies of the contractor of Tabriz Municipality and during the same year, by identifying the works of the first millennium cemetery, and after the visits, speculation and exploration as an ancient site with works especially the iron period with the index Buried skeletons with gray clay and, in some cases, pebbles and reds and metal objects are known.
In September of 1998, during a visit by the expert of the National Heritage Organization of the country, Mr. Nosrat A. Motamedi, he was shown signs of the works of the first millennium BC, which was reported to the Archaeological Research Institute. After that, the cultural heritage of East Azerbaijan was excavated at 80 meters east of the Mosque of Kabul and the burial grounds belonging to the first millennium BC were revealed. In May and May 2000, a delegation led by Mr. Motamedi was sent to Tabriz to explore the mosque in the area of the bay. During the first exploration, 38 gurus were explored, and one of the graves with two skeletons (male and female) along with burial objects was blocked and transferred to the National Museum of Azerbaijan. After the completion of the activities of this board, the East Azerbaijan Cultural Heritage Organization prepared a map of the site and its works. In late 1999, an exhibition of the works of the excavation was held at the Museum of Azerbaijan.
Subsequent exploratory and preservation stages were conducted during the years 1382-1379 under the direction of Dr. Alireza Hojbari Noobri. According to the results of excavation, works belonging to the Iron Age cemetery and the dispersed works of settled floors, probably seasonal and several meters of upper layers on the works of the Iron Age, Natural sediments and anxious effects of the Islamic period were observed. Considering the strategic location of the mosque and its location in the city, its adjoining to the bay bay and close to the Azerbaijan Museum, the construction of an open museum and the preservation of works in its place required. Therefore, organizing and equipping the area in order to prepare for public visit was organized by Tabriz Cultural Heritage Organization on December 17, 2005.
All operations were performed in three phases as follows:
A) The first phase, maintenance and restoration of skeletons
B) Second Phase, Organizing the Main Museum
(C) The third phase of organizing the exterior of the museum
